"Catch an Illegal Immigrant game" at UT Austin

Conservative College Kids Host “Catch an Illegal Immigrant” Game

Damn. So many things wrong with this. I would have hoped that being closer to the border, there might be more sensitivity to these issues. But alas, just like in Phoenix, some people are just fucked up.
Even if the conservatives upset by this are just criticizing because they're hurting the conservative agenda, at least someone is calling them out. UGH, keep working everyone...

  1. I love how in America oppression/ mistreatment of immigrants is considered an okay form of abuse. This is sick. On top of the offensive game, I love how in an attempt to "spark a campus wide discussion" about this issue, they use an offensive and dehumanizing term to refer to it-- "illegal immigrant." Ugh.

  2. Okay WTF is going on here! The total lack of empathy, ethics, and compassion is so prevalent. To me this feels like brain washing students into believing that "illegal immigrants" are somehow bad people. If you catch one you get a gift card!!! I mean this is social psychological conditioning at its best, and it sickens me. The racism in the community is so apparent to me, of course we now have children growing up in areas that want to get rid of "illegal immigrants." Making a game out of someones life, and every -ism out there, pisses me off!

  4. I'm really glad the university stepped in and cancelled the event! My friend sent me an article about it a few days ago, and I honestly thought it was just some sort of joke...it is just sickening to me to see that such racist remarks and thoughts are still made every single day. And people say racism is a thing of the past? Not even close!

One thing that really stood out to me was how upset the not-as-polarized conservatives/Republicans are about this situation. We need to remember that we are dealing with some radical Republicans at this university! Politically, in my opinion, this was not a Democrat vs. Republican issue, but more of everybody vs. the close-minded assholes that are way too right-wing to even be a conservative...Obviously, our society still has a lot of growing up to do. Now that the university has cancelled the event, teachers really need to sit down with their students and educate them on why this event was wrong. It may be obvious to us, but it certainly wasn't obvious to each of these students.
