You're not a princess.

An ad campaign from an all female Catholic college prep academy in Kentucky recently went viral. The campaign's tagline is to "prepare for real life" and it features ads that challenge themes from princess culture. This ad campaign has received a lot praise for its feminist views.

I think this is a great campaign that erases some of these harmful messages that Disney movies put out. Its a great thing to teach girls and I'm pretty sure that the enrollment for this school has increased.

  1. WOW! If only ALL all-girls schools promoted this culture instead of the one I feel like they perpetuate in young girls. I speak coming from my attending an all-girl Catholic school for 2 and half years, and I look back now and remember that maybe some girls thought this but at the end of the day, they were still second tier to the all-boys school next door. I'd be interested to see what kind of blog posts/ articles are written on this as a reaction. Watch the backlash be that this is "anti-male"... -_-

  2. I loved this. I toyed with the idea of the all-girls school in my area growing up. I remember they marketed it to us as a comfortable, welcoming environment where you can speak your mind and don't have to worry about dressing up. Then another presenter followed up with "it's like a giant slumber part!" and I lost interest.
It turns out that the one all-girls school in my neighborhood was a school for very wealthy, white, catholic families that, like Amelia pointed out, was only around because they were an afterthought to the all-boys military academy next door.

  3. What cool advertising! Amelia- I love your point that some people might take this as anti-male.... the perception seems to be that when women aren't singularly concerned with men, they hate men. Let's make like the advertising, stop thinking about boys for five seconds, and work on ourselves!
