In class we have talked about different types of activism and one of the activist group that we discussed was Femen. Ukraine Is Not A Brothel is a documentary made by a 28 year old australian filmmaker Kitty Green which "outs" Victor Svyatski as the mastermind behind the group Femen.

This is shocking that a feminist activist group is ran by a sexist man and I definitely want to see this documentary.

Ebony this is amazing! I cannot believe this, but at the same time it makes some sense to me. Anything in extremes is never really good in my opinion, and to know that some of these extreme thoughts are coming from a sexist pig scares me. I cannot wait to see this film when it comes out.

And sickening for that matter...although some look at Femen in a negative light due to their forms of protesting, it was still amazing to see women come together and use the control they have over their bodies as a form of protest. Now that I see that such a sexist man actually runs the organization, that honestly really terrifies me that one man can hold that much power over a group of feminist women. We talked in class about how their are factions within the feminist movement, but this man seems to make these factions even deeper and divides the feminist movement...Differentiating the "pretty" girls from the "ugly" ones? I look forward to seeing this film in order to understand more about Femen and its sexist organizer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting this Ebony! I agree with Kirstin. I agree with Kirstin that the stated ideas and intentions behind this movement are worth considering, but it is disgusting that such a gross person could be behind it.
